Privacy Policy
Effective October 10, 2026. Updated to cover the Save to PlanShopChop browser extension.
PlanShopChop ("we", "us") is a meal planning, grocery, and cooking service available on the web at planshopchop.com, as a mobile app, and through the Save to PlanShopChop browser extension. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect what the product needs to work, we don't sell your data, and we don't run ads.
What we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address and name. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the name and email associated with that identity. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us in plain text.
Your content
Recipes you import (from links, photos, or text), recipes you generate, your meal plans, shopping lists, and saved plans are stored so the service can show them back to you across your devices.
Billing information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We store your subscription status and plan so the app knows what you have access to. Stripe's handling of your payment details is governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
Technical data
Our servers keep standard request logs (IP address, request time, endpoint) for security and debugging. Our website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless analytics tool that collects only anonymous, aggregated statistics. We do not use advertising trackers, and the mobile app contains no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
AI processing
PlanShopChop's core features are AI-powered. When you import a recipe, generate one with Ask Chef, or build a smart shopping list, the relevant content (the recipe text, photo, or your request) is sent to third-party AI providers — Google (Gemini), xAI (Grok), OpenAI, and TypeSafe — to fulfill that request. We send only what the feature needs, and this processing happens under those providers' API terms.
Browser extension
The Save to PlanShopChop extension for Chrome is optional. It saves a recipe page you are reading to your PlanShopChop library, for sites PlanShopChop cannot import on its own.
- When it reads a page: only when you click Save in the extension, and only the tab you clicked it in. It reads nothing from pages you don't save and keeps no browsing history.
- What it sends: the page's address and title; the full HTML of the page as your browser shows it, which can include anything on the page, such as your name if you are signed in to that site; the page's structured data (JSON-LD); the address of its preview image; and one recipe image the page links to, which the extension downloads inside the page. It sends these only to PlanShopChop (api.planshopchop.com), and only to import that recipe into your library. The import then works like any other import, including the AI processing described above.
- What we keep: the imported recipe, its image, the page's text, and the page's address, stored with your recipes. The full page is held only for processing and deleted shortly after the import finishes.
- What it stores on your device: a connection token PlanShopChop issued for that browser, with your account ID and email and when the token expires. The token can only save pages to your library, which uses an import credit like any import, and confirm which account it belongs to. It cannot open or change anything else in your account. It expires after 30 days and stops working sooner when you disconnect the extension, disconnect it from Settings, sign out of PlanShopChop on the web, or delete your account.
- Removing it: uninstalling the extension deletes what it stores in your browser. Recipes it saved stay in your library until you delete them or your account.
- The extension contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking code.
The use of information received from the Save to PlanShopChop extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use your information
- To provide the service: syncing your recipes, plans, and lists across devices.
- To process your subscription and free trial.
- To send transactional email (account confirmation, password reset).
- To respond when you contact support.
- To keep the service secure and diagnose problems.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use your content to train our own models.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that run PlanShopChop: Supabase (authentication and database), Railway and Cloudflare (hosting), Pydantic Logfire (application logs, which include the addresses of pages you import), Stripe (payments), and the AI providers listed above. Each receives only what its role requires. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app, or by emailing support@planshopchop.com. Deletion removes your account and your content — recipes, plans, and lists — and cancels any active subscription. Recipe images copied from web pages, including by the browser extension, are stored once at a public address and shared by every user who imports the same image, so deleting one account does not remove them. If one of these images shows you or belongs to you, email support@planshopchop.com and we will remove it. Some minimal records (like payment history required for tax and accounting) may be retained where the law requires it.
Security
All traffic to and from PlanShopChop is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Data is stored with providers that encrypt at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the surface small: no ad networks, no data brokers, no third-party scripts in the app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Email support@planshopchop.com and we'll handle it. We respond to all requests regardless of jurisdiction.
Children
PlanShopChop is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and note the change on this page. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
